This Indenture made the sixteenth day of August in the year of our Lord
One thousand eight hundred and forty one
Between Robert Tennant late of Low Green, near Pateley Bridge in the
County of York but now of Gate Bridge in the Parish of Kirkby Malzeard
in the said County of York, Farmer of the one part Henry Harrison late
of Leeds in the said County but now of Winksley in the Parish of Kirkby
Malzeard, Machine Maker of the other part.
Witnesseth that for and in Consideration of the Sum of five shillings of
lawful English Money to the said Robert Tennant in hand well and truly
paid by the said Henry Harrison upon or before the sealing and delivery
of these presents the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged that he
he said Robert Tennant Hath bargained and sold And by these presents
Doth bargain and sell unto the said Henry Harrison his Executors
Administrators and Assigns All that Water Corn Mill commonly called or
known by the name of Gate Bridge Mill with the Mill Race, Water Wheel,
Main Shafts and Main Gear thereto belonging And also all those pieces
or parcels of Land with the Plantation of Wood thereon containing by
Estimation Four Acres and Two Roods or thereabouts which said pieces
or parcels of Land are bounded on the East by Gate Bridge Road, on the
West by lands belonging to the said Robert Tennant on the North by the
River Laver and Lands belonging to the said Robert Tennant and on the
South by Lands of John Hodgson Esquire, Gate Bridge Quarry and two
Allotments belonging to the said Robert Tennant all which said premises
are situate lying and being at Gate Bridge in the Township of Galphay in
the Parish of Kirkby Malzeard aforesaid and were formerly the Estate of
Mark Barroby afterwards by James Miller and John Miller and late in
the possession of the said Robert Tennant but now in possession of the
said Henry Harrison
Together with all and singular Outbuildings, Ways,
Roads and Right of Roads, Waters, Watercourses, Trees, Hedges, Ditches,
Fences, Walls, Liberties, Commons, Commons of Pasture, Moor and
Turbary, Easements, Privileges, Advantages and Appurtenances
whatsoever to the said Corn Mill pieces or parcels of Land, Hereditaments
and Premises or any part thereof belonging or in anywise appertaining
And the Reversion and Reversions, Remainder and Remainders, Rents,
Issues and Profits thereof To have and to hold the said Corn Mill pieces or
parcels of Land, Hereditaments and all and singular other the Premises
hereinbefore mentioned to be hereby bargained and sold with their
appurtenances unto the said Henry Harrison his Executors Administrators
and Assigns from the day next before the day of the date of these presents
or the Term of one whole Year from thence next ensuing and fully to be
complete and ended Yielding and Paying therefore unto the said
Robert Tennant his Heirs and Assigns the Rent of one pepper Corn of the
same shall be lawfully demanded to the intent and purpose that by virtue
of these presents and by force of the Statute made for Transferring uses
into possession the said Henry Harrison may be in the Actual possession
of the same Hereditaments and Premises and may thereby be enabled to
accept and take a grant and release of the Freehold Reversions and
Inheritance of the same Premises and every part and parcel thereof to
such uses upon such Trusts and for such intents and purposes as shall be
thereof declared in and by an Indenture intended to bear date the day
next after the day of the date of these presents and made between the
said Robert Tennant of the first part John Tennant of Low Green
aforesaid, Yeoman of the second part the said Henry Harrison of the
third part and Thomas Harrison of Grewelthorpe in the Parish of
Kirkby Malzeard aforesaid, Gentleman of the fourth part.
In witness whereof the said parties to these presents have hereunto set
their hands and seals the day and year first above written.
